Description Woman's 1-piece dress. Cocoa brown braid in checkerboard design mounted on net. Fitted bodice has round neckline, tan chiffon yoke and long tan chiffon sleeves, with self fabric band across front at waistline to give the effect of a belt. Back closure with zipper. Gored skirt. Brown synthetic fabric lining in skirt and bodice. Cloth label at neckline: "ARNOLD SCAASI."

Acquisition Gift of Marion Vaughn
Ownership and History Worn by Marion Perkins Vaughn (Mrs. George A. Vaughn, Jr.) of Helena Road, Todt Hill, Staten Island when going out to dinner. Mrs. Vaughn died in 2002 at the age of 100.

Arnold Scaasi (whose designer name is a reversal of his last name, Isaacs), created his first ready-to-wear collection in 1956. The Midtown Manhattan building which served as Scaasi's residence, showrooms and design studio from 1959-1964 is listed in the 2018 "Historic Context Statement for LGBT History in New York City," prepared for the National Park Service and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
