This photograph and the accompanying label text were created as part of the Indelible Memories documentation project. The Staten Island Historical Society partnered with photographer Vinnie Amesse to record images and statements from more than fifty individuals profoundly affected by the events of September 11 and their aftermath. The exhibition, "Indelible Memories: September 11 Memorial Tattoos Photographed by Vinnie Amesse," was displayed at Historic Richmond Town in 2003. | Exhibit Label Text | The cross in Paul's tattoo is an I-beam cross that was found at Ground Zero during the recovery effort, a sight that affected him deeply. He included the towers to remember them as they were, not in ruins. He says that getting the tattoo was "two and a half hours of pure torture, but nothing compared to what those guys went through." |
