Woman's stomacher of embroidered silk. A stomacher is a decorative garment worn at the center front of a bodice; it was part of women's dress from the 16th to 18th centuries. This example is extensively embroidered in blue, green, pink, and yellow silk, and has a silver cord applied back and forth across the front to resemble lacing. (Keywords: Fashion, Colonial) |
