Ownership and History | In the late 1910s and early 1920s, Alice Austen and Gertrude Tate operated the Box Tree Tea Room in the historic Perine House in Dongan Hills, Staten Island. The house (now known as the Billiou-Stillwell-Perine House) was owned at that time by the Staten Island Antiquarian Society. Alice Austen belonged to the Staten Island Garden Club, which had helped the Antiquarian Society raise funds to purchase the house. |
