Description Handkerchief of white silk. A red and blue American flag is printed in the center, with an inscription printed in blue on the stripes of the flag: "For President / WM. MCKINLEY, / of Ohio. / For Vice-President / GARRET A. HOBART / of New Jersey." William McKinley was elected President of the U.S. in 1896 and re-elected in 1900. Garret A. Hobart served as vice president during McKinley's first term; he died in office in 1899.

Acquisition Gift of Arthur Sharrott
Ownership and History This handkerchief came from the estate of Mabel Florence (Post) Sharrott (ca. 1883-1947), a resident of Princes Bay, Staten Island. Mrs. Sharrott was the great-niece of the noted painter Jasper F. Cropsey.
